Scripted Bedtime Story for Children: Following Your Light
Written by Sonia Bajaj, LPC
Once upon a time there was a magical fairy kingdom. Inside it lived a fairy named (insert child’s name). The fairy loved to sing and dance with friends. One day (insert child’s name) was walking through the starry, sunset forest when a big bright light appeared up from behind a tremendous, tall tree. (Insert child’s name) thought the light was so mesmerizing and beautiful that they decided to follow it! The Light sparkled and twinkled and even laughed! The fairy had never heard a light laugh before, so they called out, “Hi! Would you like to dance with me?”
The Light stopped laughing, and the fairy had a feeling it was looking at them! Then, all of a sudden, it vanished behind another tree. (Insert child’s name) looked all around, and spotting the light a few steps ahead, said “Light, I know you are there! I am coming to catch up with you!” The fairy began to dance and laugh as they chased the Light. The Light laughed too because it liked being chased, and it was very lonely in the dark forest all by itself.
After some time, (insert child’s name) and the Light approached a clearing in the woods. The Light looked at the fairy and called out, “I don’t want to hide anymore.” It said, “I want you to see me.” The Light began to pulse, shiver, and quake. The fairy was too stunned to speak, and gaped with their mouth wide-open at the sight before their eyes.
(insert child’s name) was surprised because the Light looked exactly like them! The Light had the same eyes, nose, hair, and smile as them. The fairy looked closer and realized the Light wasn’t a light, after all. It was a fairy just like them! The Light smiled and gave the fairy a warm hug. It whispered, “If you ever feel lost or confused in the lonely woods, just look for the light that makes you laugh, wiggle, and dance! That will be me, and I will never lead you astray.”
